Membership Information

CRITERIA FOR GENERAL MEMBERSHIP

  1. The organization provides community mental health and/or addiction services in whole or in part.
  2. The organization supports the objects of the Federation, its vision, its mission and values.
  3. The organization must be either a non-profit corporation with a board of directors or a not-for-profit program with a community advisory committee, recognizing one membership per corporation.
  4. Consumer/client and family members have access to membership on board of directors or community advisory committee (for sponsored programs).

CRITERIA FOR ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

  1. The organization is a non-profit corporation which provides mental health or addiction services other than community mental health and/or addiction services or plans or has a direct interest in mental health and/or addiction services.
  2. The organizations supports the objects of the Federation, its vision, its mission and its values.
  3. Associate membership applications must be approved by the Federation Board of Directors.

DESCRIPTIONS OF MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Administrative Liaison

The Federation works with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to resolve administrative issues, provide feedback and information and advocate for more effective administrative procedures.

E-Bulletin

Bi-weekly, our E-Bulletin newsletter keeps members up to date on important events, trends, Federation activities and networks. Also, periodic ALERTS which inform members of items such as policy changes, important events, etc.

Educational Events

An Annual Conference and bi-annual General Meetings include topical seminars where members can learn and meet other members to share ideas and information.

Federation Directory

The Federation provides an updated Directory of Programs on-line. This contains lists of all member and non-member mental health and addiction programs across Ontario by city. Programs may use the information to facilitate referral of clients to other areas of the province, to network with one another or for program planning purposes.

Federation Health Insurance Plan

Health, dental, life and disability insurance accessible to all member organizations at good rates with great service.

Federation Insurance Program

Comprehensive liability insurance at excellent rates for all aspects of an organization, from Board of Directors and staff to property.

Federation Legal Assistance Retainer Package

For members of the Federation Insurance Program, this service provides immediate legal advice by phone or by correspondence on a range of issues, from personnel to program liability.

Funding Advocacy

Competing for funding within the health care system and from the government, as a whole, has never been more difficult. The Federation is playing a crucial role in bringing community mental health and addiction sector issues to the attention of the government through its continued presence and advocacy at a provincial and regional levels. The recent release of Outcomes and Effectiveness: The Success of Mental Health and Addiction Programs, marks a new stage in the advocacy work of the Federation. Demonstrating the effectiveness of member's programs and the impact of a ten year funding freeze on those programs will continue to be the theme for the coming year. Engagement with MPPs, regional ministry offices, central ministry policy tables,the press and other health sectors by the Federation and its members will be the key to bringing the very real issues of the field forward.

Information and Networking

The Federation acts as a clearing house for day-to-day operation and provides resources for members.

Insurance and Health Benefits

The Federation Health Insurance Program is very competitive, offering equal or better benefits than others in the field at lower costs. Currently we have about 120 agencies in the program and expect this number to grow throughout the year.

Member Driven, Member Accountable

The Federation has many ways for members to have input into its priorities, policies and decisions. These include General Meetings, regional meetings, surveys, feedback through the E-Bulletin, calls to our office and calls to our volunteer leadership and committees. Major policy decisions are made by our members at General Meetings. The Federation has demonstrated a strong and ongoing commitment to this principle.

Pay Equity

The Federation has provided information and training about Proportional Pay Equity and Proxy Pay Equity. This has taken the form of Alerts and updates in the E-Bulletin. The Board is continuing to advocate strongly in this area.

Policy Advocacy

Representatives currently sit on key government committees and planning groups. This ensures that our members' views are considered in policy making. It also ensures that we can keep our members informed on the latest policy developments.

Policy Representation and Advocacy

The Federation has participated in and made presentations to the provincial government on a wide variety of policy initiatives such as "Making It Happen" and "Setting the Course". Recently, the Federation co-ordinated a provincial response to the Transfer Payment Agreement and Manual, made real changes in the documents that benefited members. The Federation has representation on key government policy committees where we will continue to act as the collective voice of our membership, representing the interests of 216 organizations across Ontario.

FEDERATION INSURANCE PLAN (FIP)

 

 

 

Federation Insurance Plan is an optional, additional benefit for Ontario Federation of Community Mental Health and Addiction Programs members. The plan was established to meet the insurance needs expressed by a growing number of members. With the group buying power of OFCMHAP, affordable premium rates have been secured for a variety of insurance risks and coverage.

General Liability Insurance:

  • broad coverage for claims should your agency be sued by another person or group, alleging that your Agency has been negligent and caused them to suffer damages

Directors & Officers Liability Insurance

  • protection for the Program’s Directors and Officers for lawsuits claiming that a wrongful act caused damages to a third party which are not attributable to Bodily Injury, Property Damage or Malpractice

Malpractice Insurance:

  • liabilities arising from alleged/actual negligence in connection with the member's provision of professional services

Business Insurance:

  • physical loss or damage to practice's buildings, equipment and contents
  • extra expenses incurred in the event of a business loss, including associated lost income
  • theft of money or employee dishonesty or fraud.
